Born in 1965 in Falmouth, Cornwall, Markey’s artistic journey began at Falmouth School of Art and continued at London’s Camberwell School of Art. His talent earned him accolades such as The South Bank Picture Show award in 1986.

Markey has held solo exhibitions at the Redfern Gallery since 1992, with a 1997 retrospective at the Old Jail Art Center in Texas.

His art has been recognised in open exhibitions, including the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize (2013 and 2015), and gained critical acclaim in the Financial Times in 2016.
